Spectacular composition of over 3000 hardwood pieces representing over 150 species. Each piece has its own history, such as a stump being rescued from a tangle of poison ivy, crafted into several artworks that were sold as far as Europe and the Far East, hauled around through a dozen moves including a homeless spell, and finally the last remnants joining this bowl. Yes, the exact three pieces with that history can be pointed out in the sides, as well as the stories behind the rest.
Turtle Island is just under a foot wide, 9-1/2” high, and the mouth is just over eight inches wide. He weighs in as just over four pounds. The sides are graceful and thin, the lid, which is the turtle part (the bowl is the island) fits perfectly and the turtle’s ‘legs’ keep him securely in place. Finished in edible Tung Oil, and photographed outside during the eclipse of April 2024.
